Coastal islands often go hand-in-hand with boats, ships, bridges and piers. Jekyll Island is no exception.
Watercraft small and large, from sailboats and fishing boats to massive tankers ply the waters near Jekyll.
Three major bridges are in sight of Jekyll, including the famed Sidney Lanier Bridge, a cable-stayed bridge and the longest-spanning bridge in Georgia. The picturesque and imposing 480 feet (150 m) tall structure is named for famed poet Sidney Lanier. Many small bridges on the island cross marshlands and creeks. And a fishing tier off the northern tip of Jekyll offers excellent fishing opportunities.
The featured image above captures all three: the Sidney Lanier Bridge in the background, the fishing pier in the midground, and a foot, bike and horse bridge spanning a portion of the tidal marsh.
